Strumento Reflections

It’s been a few weeks since the performance of Strumento. Working on this play was such a special experience. The first show I directed, Auto-da-fé, was a 2-person one act, so getting to return to that format was really nice. I love how it allows for close relationships to be built between the entire team.

This experience was also special getting to work with the playwright Claudia Barnett on a premier production. The show had existed before in two halves/ten minute plays, and this was the first time it was performed as a full one act. Getting to have insight from Claudia was a real treat.

A moment I loved was when Claudia, Brooke, Caroline, and myself were sitting at a coffeeshop having lunch. There are 40 years between us, different lives, different voices… and we were all brought together by this lovely piece of theatre. I love that quality about theatre. For four vastly different women to come together to tell the story of two other women… it was a really special thing and a process I am forever grateful for.
