Urinetown

Costume Designer

Urinetown is one of my absolute favorite shows, and one that has been with me almost since I first started in theatre. This was now my third production of the show; my first was as a performer (I was Robbie the Stockfish), and second as a costume technician, thirdly, here, as the costume designer. This is a show that is dear to my heart, and I loved being able to bring the world of Urinetown to life.

This was also a chance to use some distressing techniques. When director Cal Fuller spoke about his inspiration of rust, it was obvious to me that I wanted to rust dye some clothing, a technique I learned roughly 4 years ago when I first used it on costumes for a dance piece. While I might have stained my porch and cut my hands on the steel wool, returning to this process was a lot of fun for me. I specifically loved how it turned out on Little Sally’s dress!
